Great Whales this weekend! Wow two days in a row with beautiful weather! We love this early summer weather we are having and apparently so do the whales. There was lots of activity on both days. Some of our favorite regulars were out again, and Mason was on board this weekend as well.
Saturday’s trip brought us great looks at Etch-a-Sketch open mouth feeding right next to the boat! We also saw lob tailing, single breaches, and a double breach! A few other humpbacks identified were Anchor & calf, Pogo, Fracture, Alphorn, and Echo.
On Sunday’s trip we headed out on the Miss Cape Ann for a 9:00 a.m. whale watch, and it was amazing. We traveled out to Stellwagen Bank where we identified the following: Rapier and Anchor along with their calves. We also got great looks at Centipede, Gunslinger, Amersand, Wizard, Etch-a-sketch, Ventisca and Putter. They certainly put on a show for us with lots of kick feeding right next to the boat, great looks at open mouth feeding, plenty of flipper slapping and even some breaching!
In other whale news there was a report of a humpback entanglement off the coast of Massachusetts. Our friends from the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies performed a disentanglement mission, freeing the whale from what appeared to be a minor entanglement. Reports indicate that the whale was identified as a 14 year old female humpback known as Basatami. Check out the article about it HERE. Great job guys!
We are looking forward to a great whale watch season, we hope you will join us soon for what we hope will be your best whale watch ever.
