Best trip of the season!

Just when we thought the whale watching was winding down a little bit, Jeffrey’s Ledge came alive and sure proved us wrong!  Yesterday was hands down one of the best trips we have had (so far) this season, ending in total with a 7 SPECIES DAY!

We started the trip with 2 different pods of white sided dolphins, which are always a fun addition to any whale watch.  After that we got a few glimpses of some harbor porpoises, a special treat that we usually don’t see. We then came across a large pod of Pilot whales! Pilot whales are rarely seen on our trips and always a special sighting when we come across them.  They are mostly dark grey-black in color and one of the largest members of the dolphin family, largest being the killer whale. We traveled on to find a trio of humpbacks, two of which were identified as Valley & her calf, the other being an unknown humpback.  Other sightings included another humpback traveling by herself, identified as Patches, 3 fin whales, 1 minke whale, and a grey seal!  A spectacular trip in all, as you can tell in the pictures below.
