From Naturalist Laura:

HumpbackSometimes when the weather onshore is hot, muggy, and oppressive, the best relief is getting offshore, and that’s exactly what we did today.  As soon as we got out of the harbor the breeze picked up a little and it actually felt nice to put a sweatshirt on.  We had heard from other boats that our fin whales from yesterday were long gone, so we started to make the trek to southern Stellwagen.  When we got there we were not disappointed.  We had about 10-15 humpbacks in total. Wizard 2014 calf A lot of them were seemingly new to me, but we had Flamingo’s 2014 calf again, who we had earlier this season.  We also had Bilbo and her calf (aka Spoon for those of you who aren’t regulars on the Miss Cape Ann).  We had this pair a few weeks ago when we were a little further north on southern Jeffreys Ledge.  Humpback

The Miss Cape Ann is taking Friday off, the weather is supposed to be a bit windy, and the crew wants to give the boat a little TLC with a new paint job for the deck, but we’ll be back at it again this weekend.
