From Naturalist Laura

Stellwagen Bank was the perfect place to be on Independence Day.  We seemed to have a slow start to the season as far as birds and visible surface bait goes, but that has definitely changed. Hopefully, the humpback and fin whales pick up on the amount of fish that seems to be there, the minkes sure have!  The highlight of the day was an unknown humpback continually belly-up lobtailing.  Belly-up lobtailing is how we describe a whale laying on it’s back and slamming the dorsal side of it’s tail on the surface.  We also saw Scylla, and Bilbo (aka Spoon) and her calf.  Bilbo’s calf never disappoints, we were treated to some tail breaching, and than we finished the trip as the calf started to nurse.
